By MOVE Week Greece
Free bicycles and special cargo bikes are waiting to move you during Greenwave Festival in Thessaloniki this weekend, an alternative “green” celebration which has been organised by the Ecological Group of Thessaloniki, in cooperation with other organisations and networks, every year since 2011.
From now until this Sunday, 21 September, at the Municipal Park YMCA (former refreshment area, next to the Garden Theater) you can enjoy a free bike ride along the coast line of Thessaloniki. Greenways Social Cooperative together with the Environment Agency of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) are providing the bicycles and raising awareness about the European MOVE Week from 29 September to 5 October, which promotes the benefits of being active and participating regularly in sport and physical activity.
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the largest university in Greece with over 81,500 students. The main campus is located in the centre of the city of Thessaloniki and covers an area of about 33.4 hectares. In the context of integrated environmental management and aiming at improving the quality of life in areas of the campus, the university is running a bike sharing system for community members of AUTH.
